Peruvian filmmaker and alumnus of La Fémis - Université d'été, Berlinale Talents, Oberhausen Seminar, and Talents Buenos Aires. His passion as a filmmaker arose from the memories of his family, his identity as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, and social justice. Since making films, Carlos has developed an interest in recreating different worlds within absence and faith.

 

He’s currently developing his first hybrid feature film, The Scent of Walls, with the support of Cine Qua Non Lab, Tres Puertos Cine, Locarno Open Doors Producer's Lab, Moulin d'Andé, San Sebastián Film Festival, and Tabakalera Residency.

His recent fiction short film, The Distance of Time, has been selected for festivals such as Locarno, Oberhausen, Mill Valley, Raindance, Bogoshorts, and OUTFEST Perú, picking up prizes in Reeling Chicago, Trujillo and Piura. His second fiction short won the Greek Film Center Award at Drama ISFF) and the Peruvian National Fund for Short Films is currently in post-production.

In 2023, he won the Mastercard Enablement Program Fellowship for the project TranStories at the 73° Berlin Film Festival. This is a one-of-a-kind creative documentary lab for the Peruvian trans community so they can tell their stories using their voices, bodies, and thoughts without any discrimination or male gaze over them.

He studied for a Project Management diploma at Universidad de Cordoba and an MA in Film Screenplay at Universidad de La Rioja. In 2019, he published “The Borders of Transsexuality in Latin American Cinema,” an article about the representation of trans women in six Latin American films.
